Port Vell district of Barcelona has a marina, an aquarium, and a shopping center, all these constitute the Port Vell area of Barcelona. A great place for a walk on a warm summer’s day and just a few minutes from the famous La Rambla street.

Port Vell district of Barcelona is the area surrounding the port of Barcelona. It was modernized for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and now attracts around 16 million visitors each year. This area of Barcelona contains Europe’s largest aquarium, an IMAX cinema and a shopping center. There is also a marina with many yachts and boats moored. It is 5 minutes walk from the bottom of La Rambla.

The great thing about Port Vell district is that it is a great place for a walk and to get some space from the city. As you explore Port Vell you will many yachts in Barcelona’s marina. The shopping center is a good place for a visit; however, it is a bit neglected recently. Barceloneta beach and the Aerial Tramway are a good few minutes walk away. The Aerial Tramway will take you up to Montjuïc Castle.

Port Vell district can be visited at the same time as La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter. It is important to remember that in the summer month it can get quite hot. You may want to take this into account if you plan to walk from the center down to this marina on a very hot day. Passengers that arrive from the cruise ship terminal will pass the Port Vell district as they head towards tLa Rambla.

How to get to Port Vell

The best way to visit the Port Vell district is to walk down La Rambla street and keep going ahead. You will arrive at the marina and will ne able to walk across the wooden decking towards the shopping centre. If you are arriving from another part of Barcelona you can take the metro, line 3 to Drassanes which is at the bottom of La Rambla and you should see the marina on exiting the metro station. If you arrive at Plaça Catalyuna, you can walk straight down La Rambla. Port Vell district is at the very end of La Rambla.
