Cosmocaixa is a science museum with many interactive exhibits that kids will enjoy. The Science Museum of Barcelona, now called Cosmoscaixa was renovated and reopened in 2004 under its new name. The many exhibitions feature interaction such as touch and play the kids will love to interact with. The museum is quite massive, with around 50,000 square meters of space. There are permanent exhibitions and also temporary exhibitions and events.

The museum features areas devoted to science and nature including a planetarium, a rainforest area including living frogs, insects, piranhas, and alligators. Other exhibits features science, medicine, geological formations, robotics, and much more exhibited in a way children will enjoy learning.

  • The Universe Room – A brand-new exhibition, The Universe Room, is where you will learn about the big bang and the formation of the universe we live in today. Inside this area are 10 interactive exhibits from three themed topics including Cosmos, Evolution, and Frontiers.
  • Retos y Rastros – Opened in 2021 this exhibit feature fossils and skeleton remains of animal with some unique examples over 150 million years old. You can also view fossilized minerals, plants, and insects as you learn more about life millions of years ago.
  • Rain Forest – Opened in 2021 this exhibit feature fossils and skeleton remains of animal with some unique examples over 150 million years old. You can also view fossilized minerals, plants, and insects as you learn more about life millions of years ago.
  • Antartic Base – Discover the most remote areas on the planet, Antarctica. Explore some of the first expeditions to this remote area thanks to an exposition documenting the first adventurers to this remote part of the world.
  • The Geological Wall – A 24-meter-long rock containing 7 pieces from distinct areas of the world. Each piece of rock presents to us the geological process of formation of our planet.
  • Sustainable Bulding – A green building where you can learn about sustainability of our lifestyle and environment.

How to get to the Cosmocaixa Museum in Barcelona

The Cosmocaixa Museum is on Carrer d’Isaac Newton 26, Barcelona. It is quite near to the Tibidabo funicular railway and the nearest metro (FGV tram) station is Avda Tibidabo line 7. You can also get the following buses H2, H4, V13, V17, V15, 196 and 123. A taxi ride would take around 10 or 15 minutes from the center of Barcelona, depending on the traffic conditions and the time of day.

Entry price and opening times for Cosmocaixa Museum

The museum is open daily diring 2023 (including weekends) from 10:00 until 20:00, children under 16 can enter the museum free of charge. The museum admission price for adults for 2023 is just 6 euros. There may be special discounts for groups or organizations or available by contacting the museum in advance. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Parking is available within the museum complex between 07:00 – 23:00. There is also restaurant within the museum serving meal between 13:00 and 16:00, with the cafeteria open all day until 20:00.
